Driving Licenses

A driving license must have an officially recognized English translation if not originally printed in this language. Most Asian countries (including Thailand ) honor a valid US license. To comply with this requirement, if your license does not have an English translation, you can carry an International Driving Permit (IDP). Licenses (and a valid passport) must be carried at all times when driving.

Additional Drivers

No surcharge is made for additional drivers, however, they must be nominated and have their names entered on the rental agreement at the time of rental.

Age Restrictions

To hire a vehicle with Expert Car Rental you must be over 21 years old, and no age surcharges or maximum age limitations.

Road Rules

In Thailand you are required to drive on the left hand side of the road. The maximum speed limit in cities and towns is 60km/h (35 mph) and varies between 90 and 120 km/h (52-60 mph) on expressways and country roads.

Petrol

Thai gas stations are full-service with no surcharge. All Expert Car Rental vehicles use either unleaded petrol (gas) or diesel (derv). To calculate how much you're putting in your tank: 1US gal. = 3.79 litres , 1 UK gal = 1.2 U.S. gal.

Breakdowns

All Expert Car Rental vehicles have 24-hour emergency roadside assistance for your peace of mind.

Credit Cards

You may pay for your rental with American Express, MasterCard, Visa and Diners Club credit cards. We hope this range encompasses your choice of payment and are sorry if this causes any inconvenience to your travel plans.

Check your Vehicle

On collection of your vehicle please take a little time to check the condition of the vehicle, make a comfortable driving position, and familiarize yourself with the controls. Check that you have a full tank as you are expected to return it in this state.

Safety on the Road

Particularly in a city other than where you call home, is important. Expert has some traveling recommendations for you as well as some tips from other veteran travelers.

Do not stop on the roadway or shoulder and do not get out of your car, if any of the following situations occur :

  • Another motorist advises you of problems with your vehicle.
  • Your car is malfunctioning or someone on the roadside needs assistance.

If any of these situations occur, drive to the nearest well-lighted public place to notify the proper authorities and to request assistance. In most areas, dial 191 or 123 for the police.
