It's a legal requirement that all drivers have, as a minimum, Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance meeting or exceeding the requirements of the Road Protection Act or as amended. Vehicle cannot be rented unless Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance is in place.

Inclusive daily rental rates include vehicle insurance and third party liability, including property cover, and Loss Damage Waiver (LDW). Please note that an excess applies to all rentals. If a customer is involved in an accident that cannot be recovered from a third party or there is a loss, they will need to pay a Baht 20,000 for ECAR CPMR or 30,000 for CCAR MCAR ICAR or 40,000 for IVAR IFAR SCAR or 80,000 for XTAR LCAR PVAR (depend on size of vehicle) excess. Insurance coverage is subject to the terms and conditions of the rental agreement, but follows generally accepted international standards.

Detailed below are the coverages of international standard Insurance Protection available in Thailand from Expert :

Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance


The Road Protection Act provides limited injury and death cover to anyone injured or killed in an accident. All parties are covered up to Baht 80,000 per person, except the driver of the vehicle, who (if at fault) is limited to Baht 15,000.

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)


LDW provides comprehensive coverage to the renter for own vehicle damage, as well as liability protection against third party injury, death or vehicle and property damage. Liability for bodily injury or death of any third person, including passenger, caused by accident is unlimited per person or not exceeding Baht 10 million per accident. All claims shall be determined by the courts in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Expert offers LDW coverage, at a daily cost of Baht 200. This limits the renter's responsibility to a maximum of Baht 20,000 for ECAR CPMR or 30,000 for CCAR MCAR ICAR or 40,000 for IVAR IFAR SCAR or 80,000 for XTAR LCAR PVAR (depend on size of vehicle) in the event of loss or damage to the rented vehicle where recovery cannot be made from the third party, subject to the renter's compliance with the Rental Agreement.

In other words, the maximum exposure that a renter will have in the event of non recoverable loss or damage is Baht 20,000 for ECAR CPMR or 30,000 for CCAR MCAR ICAR or 40,000 for IVAR IFAR SCAR or 80,000 for XTAR LCAR PVAR (depend on size of vehicle), providing the Details of Use Restrictions at item 4 of the Rental Agreement are not contravened. If Use Restrictions are contravened, the LDW is void.

Terms and Conditions on the Rental Agreement for Use
The wording on the rental agreement for use is as follows:

Use Restrictions : The Vehicle will not be used or operated as details below:

  1. Drive or transport the Vehicle outside the Kingdom of Thailand.
  2. Drive the Vehicle of regularly maintained and paved roadways to cause damage to the Vehicle.
  3. During the commission of a felony or for the transportation of illegal drugs or contraband or the insufficient height or width exists. The improper loads the Vehicle or transports weight exceeding the Vehicle's maximum capacity or to carry hazardous or explosive substances.
  4. Drive while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance that impairs driving ability.
  5. Allow more passengers to occupy the Vehicle than there are seat belts, or who does not require all occupants to comply with applicable seat belt and child restraint laws.
  6. Leave the Vehicle and fails to remove the keys, close and lock all doors and close all windows and the trunk, or otherwise aids in vandalism or theft of the Vehicle.
  7. Continue operation of the Vehicle is likely to cause damage to the Vehicle, to engage in any speed contest as a result of reckless misconduct, damages the Vehicle or causes personal injury or property damage to others.
  8. Fuel the Vehicle improperly (gasoline fuel in a diesel-powered vehicle or diesel fuel in a gasoline-powered vehicle)
  9. Lend for commercial or drive by the unauthorized driver without the permission from “Expert” otherwise Renter must be responsible for all loss of and damage to the Vehicle and all related expenses.
  10. Obtain upon the basis of false or misleading information.
  11. To carry people or property for hire (unless otherwise agreed by Expert); to push anything; to tow anything (except a Tow Unit rented from Expert)

Personal Accident and Effects (PAE) Insurance


This insurance can be purchased when collecting the vehicle. PAE Insurance is an optional protection plan that can be purchased at the time of rental for Baht 100 per day. It provides additional protection for the occupants of the rented vehicle up to a maximum of :

  • Hospitalization and Ambulance Expenses-Baht 250,000 per person
  • Death Benefits-Baht 1 million
  • Personal Effects-Baht 50,000 per vehicle

Under the Hospitalization and Ambulance Expenses, the renter and passengers are protected for accidental injury while using the vehicle. By calling the Emergency 24 Hour Hotline, action will immediately be taken to ensure that appropriate medical care is provided, including evacuation to the nearest center of medical excellence.

The Personal Effects extension excludes money, but covers damage, loss or theft of personal effects and baggage arising from an accident in the rental vehicle.

The maximum payable under PAE cover is Baht 1 million on any one accident.
